He is a man of many trades and skills but Lord Snowdon is first and foremost known for his portrait photography of celebrated actors, art-world giants, top fashion designers, literary luminaries, political leaders, pop stars and royalty. Ralph Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson, Graham Greene, Sidney Nolan, Manolo Blahnik, Agatha Christie and David Bowie, to mention a few. For this project Acne’s Chief Designer Johnny Johansson got to work with his long time personal source of inspiration Lord Snowdon, whom he also contracted in an early issue of Acne paper back in 2007.

What makes his portraits not only special but also deeply personal is that many of the persons are wearing shirts belonging to Lord Snowdon himself. Over the years his assistants have often been asked mid-sitting to “please bring me one of my shirts” whereby the sitter has changed into one of his various blue shirts for the portrait.

As Snowdon himself puts it: “The blue shirt is anonymous and yet kind of a uniform. It is like a simple backdrop that leaves us to focus on the sitter’s face without being distracted.”
The project resulted in 8 interpretations of blue shirts and the book Snowdon Blue containing 60 selected portraits. Both the shirts and book are produced, designed and published by Acne Studios.

Att arbeta för Très Bien Shop är att arbeta inom en bransch som befinner sig i en utvecklingsfas och som ständigt förändras och förbättras. Allt eftersom vi växer så ökar också mängden arbetsuppgifter. Ibland så mycket att det är svårt att definiera dem. Vad vi då söker är någon som skulle vilja arbeta med en mängd små till stora uppgifter. Främst kommer arbetet att bestå av order- och produkthantering samt att se till att lagret ständigt är uppdaterat och korrekt organiserat. Sedan ska alla leveranser packas upp och sorteras. När kunder har lagt sina orders så ska de plockas ut från lagret och packas ihop för leverans.

Sedan finns det säkert en mängd uppgifter som uppkommer under arbetets gång. Vi har alla funktioner samlat under ett tak så på kontoret arbetar alla tillsammans vilket medför att arbetsplatsen är väldigt social.

Att arbeta med utveckling hos Très Bien Shop är att arbeta inom en bransch som är i en utvecklingsfas och som ständigt förändras och förbättras. Vi driver konstant på med nya idéer som på ett eller annat sätt alltid hamnar på vår webbutvecklares bord. För att undvika flaskhalsar så vill vi anställa ytterligare en som kan hjälpa till med dessa ärenden. Som webbutvecklare på Très Bien kommer du spela en central roll i vår strävan mot att ge kunden den bästa upplevelsen.

Dina arbetsuppgifter kommer innefatta allt ifrån långsiktiga utvecklingsprojekt till dagliga förbättringar och optimeringar. Vi arbetar med plattformen Magento i vår e-handel. Programmet är open-source och ger oss stor valfrihet när det gäller modifiering men ställer samtidigt krav på oss att lära och förstå koden. Vi använder oss även utav WordPress till publicering och en rad andra system vi själva utvecklat.

This Summer season, prints in all forms is a big feature across collections. From the traditional ‘Paisley’ and flower motifs of Junya Watanabe, the remarkable prints of Jil Sander, to the graphics of Undercover – the print machines have certainly been switched back on after what seemed like a permanent hiatus. Who, three or four years ago would have thought prints and graphics would be back in the ‘big time’ so soon after they saturated menswear?

Prints are a way to create interest and excitement at a fraction of the cost of weaving fabric. Take Adam Kimmel as a prime example. Each season, Adam Kimmel produce custom fabrics, so as factory stocked fabrics are in the minority within each collection. The process of not only sourcing luxury fabrics – as all high-end brands do – but also creating custom colours and weaves, in the pursuit of luxury, naturally creates higher prices. However, as this elite market becomes more competitive, high-end brands must find means to distinguish their collections from their competitors – enter Riccardo Tisci and Givenchy Summer 2012.

As the lines between luxury and streetwear become ever-more blurred, as does the ‘etiquette’ that luxury brands avoid the frivolous, hence Tisci’s heralded ‘Birds of Paradise’ prints are certain to be hugely photographed and circulated in the upcoming Summer show circuit when fashion’s elite descend upon capital cities worldwide. No longer seen as something of a ‘lesser’ artform within the mainstream of luxury fashion – with the obvious exception of Dries Van Noten and his consistently print heavy collections – printing is now seen as a way to state the obvious in a slightly abstracted form…fashion has finally caught up with contemporary art indeed.

Also, prints like the ‘Paisley’, flower motif and animal graphics all hint at the past, when times were good – after all, “ain’t nothin’ on the news but the blues”. These were times when not everywhere could be reached with a day’s plane ride, and this is exactly what the eye-catching sepia peacock print and Hawaii design featured within this seasons Engineered Garments hints at – perhaps ignorance is indeed bliss.

Prints have moved beyond the kitsch, coming full circle. No longer is it simply a way for brands to catchthe eye. Now, prints have a deeper meaning (If only slightly), be it explicit or not.

As Fall/Winter 2011 comes to a close, we are excited to revisit one of our most recent relationships with the release of highly anticipated technical apparel brand, White Mountaineering’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection entitled “Dune Rover.” While White Mountaineering does an exceptional job producing some of the more eye catching technically advanced apparel each season, they never fall short of their initial mission, fusing elements of design, utility, and technology.

The foundation of this Spring/Summer 2012 collection remains transparent as they continue to set the tone, producing an extensive catalogue of pieces inspired by the Country Western era, infusing contemporary design and technical material, creating an impressive balance between fashion and function.

In addition to the luring aesthetic WM created this season, the Country Western influenced collection showcases an earth tone color palette, a strong variety of prints, as well as great usage of denim and chambray materials. Great design and quality production further solidifies why this conceptually driven brand is in a league of their own.

A new Dries van Noten collection is always worth keeping an eye open for, but the spring 2012 drop really is one to savour. Typically cerebral, the clothes here are wonderfully balanced. Focusing on silhouette and shape, there’s a real sense of craft and thought on display, alongside strong ideals of measurement and refinement, leading to one of the most accessible Dries collections in some time.

They are clothes for the outdoor man, one partial to hunting, fishing, and riding, to pursuits of leisure. It’s slightly on the dark side, hinting at some industrial, decadent dystopia. All midnight blue and burgundy, and full of contrasts too: real vs. synthetic, form vs. freedom and so on. As van Noten himself has said, this collection is about using technical detail as decoration, and it shows through in the clothes.

It’s Dries in a nutshell: take a classic idea and modernise it to the extent that it once again seems fresh. Easily said, but not so easily done.
