For those who live in urban environments subject to heavy snowfall and brutal storms, winter can bring an unexpected set of challenges. Chief among them is figuring out what to wear in order to stay warm and dry. And when you don’t want to mess up your trainers or dress shoes but still want to look stylish, navigating winter footwear options can become increasingly difficult.
Enter Diemme, a boot company based in Montebelluna, Italy, a small town located approximately 60 kilometers northwest of Venice. 75 percent of the world’s ski boots are produced in or around Montebelluna, which has a history of footwear manufacturing dating back to the 1870s. Like many of the town’s residents, brothers Messrs Maico and Dennis Signor had been working in shoe production their entire lives when they decided to start Diemme in 1992. After perfecting their technical hiking boot designs, Maico and Signor started to expand the label and collaborate with retailers and designers in Japan.
In 2010, Diemme began working with Très Bien colleagues, Norwegian Blender Agency, to put a more fashion-forward spin on their traditional aesthetic. Today, Diemme boots are unmistakably rugged but have been updated with luxurious leathers and suedes, contrast laces and Vibram soles. Each pair of Diemme boots is still handmade in Montebelluna using the finest materials, but you’re just as likely to find them on the streets of London and New York as in the Alps.
